"It is so easy to waste our lives: our days, our hours, our minutes.
It is so easy to take for granted the color of the azaleas,
the sheen of the limestone on Fifth Avenue,
the color of our kid's eyes,
the way the melody in a symphony rises and falls and disappears and rises again.
It is so easy to exist instead of live."

fathers day 2011

We had a family outing at Walnut creek farmers market on Fathers day last Sunday. A great way to spend the day with the kids and see Baba in action at the market talking vendors about www.homecook.me.
I was going to make a steak dinner from Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc cookbook, and we actually found steak at the farmers' market. We bought some fresh basil, cilantro, marble potatoes, rosemary along with cherries, strawberries and blackberries.  Rayna keeps yelling "sample, sample"..and stops at all the vendors to get some. We stopped by a gourmet ice-pop stall and also because it was 90 degrees outside.  The lady only had "spicy pineapple" and "lemon-basil".  I figured it was healthy, so I got it for them.  Rayna couldn't believe ice cream could be spicy, she screamed and wanted me to toss it.  Inika didn't quite like the taste of lemon-basil, but she had some of it..before Bilal finished it.
Time to cook.  The dinner turned out great with steak and marble potatoes.  The best was Bilal's pomegranate (fresh from the market), basil martini that totally hit the spot. "Bilalini" We love you baba:)

Happy Father's day Bilal..
